Traditional leaders from the Adele Traditional Council have officially thrown their weight behind Hon. Joseph Awal Antwi, the newly appointed Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Nkwanta South, in a strong demonstration of unity and commitment to lasting peace and development in the municipality.
In a high-level visit to the MCE’s office this week, the chiefs, led by Nana Afram Kwakru II, Acting Paramount Chief of the Adele Traditional Council, and Nana Amanfor Monfankye, paid a courtesy call on Hon. Antwi to formally welcome him into office and express their readiness to collaborate with his administration for the betterment of the area.
The traditional authorities used the occasion to urge all stakeholders to prioritize peace and development over political divisions, emphasizing that the region has suffered for far too long from instability and underdevelopment.
“We are here to officially congratulate you on your appointment and offer our full support as traditional rulers,” said Nana Afram Kwakru II. “We believe that your leadership marks a new chapter for Nkwanta South. Our goal is to work with you, hand in hand, to bring peace, progress, and prosperity to our people.”
He noted that the role of traditional leaders is to safeguard the interest of the community and foster unity among diverse groups. “As chiefs, we are not interested in politics. We are interested in peace. When there is peace, development will follow,” he added.
Nana Amanfor Monfankye, also speaking at the event, stressed that the time had come for all leaders—traditional, political, and civic—to lay aside their differences and forge a united front to tackle the socio-economic challenges facing the municipality. “We want our children to inherit a peaceful and thriving Nkwanta South. That is the legacy we seek, and we know it is only possible when we all commit to working together,” he said.
In his response, Hon. Joseph Awal Antwi expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the Adele Traditional Council for their kind gesture and timely visit. He reaffirmed his commitment to open and transparent leadership and called for continuous dialogue between his office and traditional leaders.
“I am deeply honored by your visit and grateful for your wise counsel,” said Hon. Antwi. “As MCE, I consider myself a servant of the people. I believe that leadership is not about occupying a position—it is about listening, serving, and being available. My doors will always be open to you.”
He emphasized that traditional leaders are indispensable allies in the development process and that their voices will be heard and respected in all aspects of governance. “Development must not come from the top alone. It must be inclusive. Your knowledge of the land, the people, and the culture is vital to the decisions we make,” he said.
The MCE also took the opportunity to relay a message of assurance from former President and current flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, to the people of Nkwanta South. According to Hon. Antwi, the former president remains committed to bringing substantial development to the municipality—but peace is a critical precondition.
“H.E. John Mahama has made it clear that the future of Nkwanta South will be bright once peace prevails. If we can work together to ensure stability and security, the government will not hesitate to bring roads, schools, healthcare, and jobs to our people,” Hon. Antwi said.
He further stressed that government alone cannot do it all and called on community members to take ownership of the peacebuilding process. “We all have a role to play. Peace begins with how we treat each other, how we speak to one another, and how we settle disputes. Let’s be ambassadors of unity and agents of progress,” he added.
The meeting concluded with mutual expressions of goodwill and a shared commitment to building a better future for Nkwanta South. Both the traditional council and the MCE’s office pledged to maintain continuous engagement, mutual respect, and cooperative decision-making.
The visit comes at a crucial time as Nkwanta South seeks to overcome years of intermittent conflict, political tension, and slow-paced development. Stakeholders believe that strong collaboration between traditional authorities and the municipal assembly is essential to restoring public confidence and driving transformative change.
The presence of respected traditional figures such as Nana Afram Kwakru II and Nana Amanfor Monfankye lends credibility and moral authority to the peace and development agenda, and their pledge of support signals a promising path forward for the municipality.
Citizens and local observers have since welcomed the show of unity and cooperation, calling it a “timely breakthrough” in the efforts to rebrand Nkwanta South as a stable and progressive district.
For Hon. Joseph Awal Antwi, the backing of the Adele Traditional Council is not just symbolic—it is a clear mandate to lead with integrity and purpose. As the municipality looks to the future, the spirit of collaboration seen in this visit may well become the cornerstone for a new era of peace, growth, and inclusive governance in Nkwanta South.
