Dangote Refinery IPO Sees Surge in Subscriptions Ahead of Deadline

Dangote Refinery has reported a sharp increase in subscriptions to its initial public offering (IPO) ahead of the final deadline, as investors rush to participate in the share offering.

The company confirmed the development in a statement on Sunday, reiterating that the deadline for subscriptions would not be extended again.

“This is the final deadline, and no further extension will be granted. Investors wishing to participate must complete their subscriptions before the offer closes,” the refinery stated.

The latest surge in investor interest comes as the company reports strong financial results, reinforcing attention on its performance and its position in Africa’s energy sector.

Dangote Refinery, described as Africa’s largest oil refinery, reportedly recorded revenue of $22.5 billion and net profit of $4.73 billion for the nine months ended September 30, 2026.

Its revenue grew by 14 per cent year-on-year, while earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) rose to $5.5 billion over the period.

The reported financial performance comes at a critical stage of the IPO, as the company seeks to attract investors before the offer closes. However, the financial figures and subscription claims should be assessed alongside the company’s official disclosures and the relevant offer documents.

The IPO deadline had previously been extended by two weeks to give more investors an opportunity to participate in the share offering.

The extension came nearly two weeks before the latest announcement, following interest from investors seeking to acquire shares in the refinery.

According to a report by Daily Post, the IPO opened on the Nigerian stock market on September 14, 2026, and has attracted investors from Nigeria, nearly 51 African countries and other parts of the world.

The reported international participation points to interest beyond Nigeria, reflecting the refinery’s significance to the region’s energy and industrial development.

Dangote Refinery is a major industrial project designed to increase domestic petroleum refining capacity and reduce Nigeria’s dependence on imported refined petroleum products. Its operations have attracted attention from businesses, investors and policymakers because of the potential implications for fuel supply, foreign exchange demand and the wider energy market.

The share offering provides investors with an opportunity to participate in the company’s ownership, subject to the terms and conditions outlined in the IPO documents.

For prospective shareholders, the decision to subscribe will depend on several considerations, including the refinery’s financial performance, future earnings prospects, the price of the shares, the risks associated with the oil and gas industry and the terms of the offer.

The reported increase in subscriptions ahead of the deadline suggests that the final days of the offering have become an important period for the company and prospective investors. However, a surge in subscriptions does not, by itself, establish whether the IPO is fully subscribed or how the shares will perform after listing.

The refinery’s financial results are also likely to remain a central part of investor assessments. Revenue growth and profitability can provide useful indications of business performance, but investors must also consider operating costs, debt obligations, capital expenditure, market conditions and the sustainability of earnings.

The oil refining industry is exposed to fluctuations in crude oil prices, changes in demand for petroleum products, exchange-rate movements and regulatory decisions. These factors can affect profit margins and influence the long-term value of refinery investments.

In Nigeria, the development of large-scale refining capacity has been closely linked to efforts to reduce reliance on imported fuel and strengthen domestic industrial production. The Dangote Refinery has therefore become an important part of discussions about the country’s energy security and its position in the regional petroleum market.

Its performance also has implications beyond Nigeria, as developments in refining capacity and petroleum product supply can influence trade flows and fuel markets across West Africa.

The reported participation of investors from several African countries could further broaden the refinery’s shareholder base if confirmed by official subscription figures.

With the company insisting that no further extension will be granted, investors seeking to participate have been urged to complete the subscription process before the stated deadline.

The final outcome of the IPO, including the total amount subscribed, the level of investor participation and the allocation of shares, will provide a clearer picture of the response to the offering.

For now, attention remains on the closing stages of the share sale, with the refinery’s reported financial performance and the growing interest from investors placing the IPO firmly in focus.

Prospective investors are advised to consult the official offer documents and announcements from the relevant market authorities before making investment decisions.
