Davido Reveals He’d Still Be in Entertainment Without Music: “I Can Act for Real”

Afrobeats megastar Davido has revealed that his passion for entertainment goes far beyond music. In a recent sit-down interview, the award-winning Nigerian artist said that if he hadn’t pursued singing, he would still be working in the entertainment industry — either behind the scenes or as an actor.

Nigerian global music icon David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has disclosed that his talents and interests span across multiple areas of the entertainment world. During a candid conversation with content creator Darryl on Ride Along With Darryl, the multi-award-winning singer shared that he would have pursued a career in the entertainment industry even if he hadn’t become a singer.

“If I wasn’t singing, I’d definitely still be in the entertainment space,” Davido said. “I studied business marketing, so I would probably be behind the scenes — managing, producing, or investing.”

The hitmaker behind chart-topping songs like Fall, FEM, and Unavailable added that his business acumen and love for the creative process would have kept him deeply involved in shaping music, movies, and other forms of content.

“I’ve always had a creative mind. Even if I wasn’t the one on the mic, I’d be in the background helping to create something powerful,” he explained.

From Afrobeats to the Big Screen

Beyond his successful music career, Davido also revealed his interest in acting and filmmaking. According to him, he has always had a flair for acting and plans to venture more seriously into the film industry this year.

“I can act for real,” he said with a laugh. “If you watch some of my music videos — like Jowo and Nwa Baby — you’ll see what I mean. I didn’t just stand around; I was fully into the character.”

Davido shared that he is currently investing in several film and TV projects alongside his longtime collaborator and music video director, Dammy Twitch.

“Shoutout to my director Dammy Twitch — we have some amazing ideas cooking. There are some series and film projects we’re working on this year,” he said.

Davido’s Vision for African Film

While Nigerian cinema — popularly known as Nollywood — has grown tremendously over the last two decades, Davido believes there’s room for improvement, especially in terms of financial sustainability.

“The film space right now in Africa is facing some serious challenges,” he noted. “A lot of productions are struggling financially. Some are even going bankrupt.”

According to Davido, this financial downturn is exactly why now is the right time for strategic investments and innovative storytelling in the African film industry.

“We’re definitely tapping into that space. There’s a lot of untold stories, a lot of talent. And I believe African film can reach the same global level as Afrobeats — we just have to invest right,” he said.

A Multi-Talented Star

Davido’s fans are no strangers to his performance abilities. Over the years, he has incorporated acting-style storytelling into several of his music videos, earning praise for his charisma and screen presence. Videos like Assurance, 1 Milli, and If show him portraying various emotional and dramatic roles — from lover boy to heartbroken partner — with impressive depth.

“He’s a natural performer,” said Lagos-based filmmaker Tola Adeniran. “Davido brings energy and emotion to his videos. If he decides to go into acting fully, he will definitely shine.”

This crossover from music to film is not new in the entertainment world, but Davido’s business-savvy approach and his eye for quality production could give him an edge. He has previously hinted at plans to build a production company, which would further cement his role as a major player in the creative economy.

A Businessman at Heart

Davido’s interest in film is not just artistic — it’s also strategic. With a degree in business marketing, the singer has always approached his career with a strong entrepreneurial mindset. From launching his own record label (DMW), to signing new artists, and building brand collaborations across fashion and tech, Davido is known for blending creativity with commerce.

“Entertainment is not just about performing,” he explained. “It’s about creating a platform, building something that outlives you.”

His recent announcement about venturing into film is consistent with this vision. By investing in Africa’s growing entertainment market, Davido is positioning himself as a multi-industry mogul — and a symbol of the continent’s creative evolution.

Fans React: “He’s More Than Just Music”

The revelation has sparked excitement among fans online, many of whom said they would love to see Davido take on a lead acting role.

“Davido in a full Nollywood film? I’d watch that in a heartbeat!” one fan posted on X. Another wrote, “This guy is more than music — he’s a whole empire.”

Media analysts also praised Davido’s plan, noting that his international popularity could bring more visibility to African film projects, especially on global platforms like Netflix, Prime Video, and Showmax.

“Afrobeats opened the door. African film could walk right through — and Davido might be the one to hold it open,” said media expert Nneka Eze.

Conclusion

Davido’s journey continues to evolve, not just as a singer but as a cultural innovator. Whether it’s through music, acting, or investing in storytelling, he’s proving that African entertainers can lead the way across multiple industries.

As fans await his next move — possibly a feature film or hit series — one thing is clear: Davido is far from done. And wherever he chooses to go next, the spotlight is sure to follow.
