The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced that a record-breaking 78 radio stations nationwide have secured accreditation to provide live commentary of the upcoming 2025/26 Ghana Premier League (GPL) season. This historic step, facilitated through the partnership with GhSportsLive, is designed to make the country’s flagship football competition more accessible than ever before.
According to the GFA, the initiative forms part of its broader mission to “bring the league closer to the people” by ensuring that fans across all 16 regions can enjoy uninterrupted commentary and real-time updates, regardless of where they live.

Bringing Football to the People
In a statement, the GFA explained the motivation behind this milestone initiative:
“The Ghana Premier League is the heartbeat of our domestic game. By working with a record number of accredited radio stations, we are ensuring that every Ghanaian, irrespective of their location, has the opportunity to follow the competition live. This is about inclusivity, accessibility, and strengthening the connection between the league and its fans.”
The decision is expected to deepen public interest in the GPL at a time when the Association is investing in reforms to improve the quality and commercial value of the league. With television coverage still limited in some parts of the country, radio continues to serve as the most reliable medium through which many Ghanaians experience football.
Warning to Unaccredited Stations
The GFA also issued a stern caution to stations that were not included in the accreditation list. It stressed that any unauthorized rebroadcast of live GPL commentary would amount to a breach of copyright and broadcasting laws, with serious consequences.
“Any station found guilty of illegally airing live Ghana Premier League commentary will face prosecution. This includes the imposition of heavy fines and the possible revocation of broadcasting licenses. We are committed to protecting the rights of our accredited partners,” the Association warned.
This strong stance reflects the GFA’s determination to safeguard the commercial value of its broadcast rights and encourage media houses to operate within the legal framework.
A Boost for the 2025/26 Season
The 2025/26 GPL campaign is already generating excitement among fans, with clubs strengthening their squads and supporters eager to return to the stands after the off-season. The introduction of 78 accredited radio stations is expected to amplify that excitement, giving fans more avenues than ever to stay connected to the league.
Football analysts say this development could also positively influence club revenues and the GPL brand as a whole, as wider media coverage tends to boost sponsorship opportunities and fan engagement. “This is a significant leap forward for the league,” one analyst noted. “When football is accessible everywhere, it grows in value, and both clubs and fans stand to benefit.”
The National Game
The Ghana Premier League has long been regarded as more than just a competition; it is a unifying force in Ghanaian society. From Accra to Wa, from Kumasi to Hohoe, match days bring people together in homes, workplaces, and public viewing centres. With this expanded radio network, the GFA is tapping into the cultural significance of football, ensuring that the nation’s game resonates with millions more in real time.
Looking ahead, the Association has pledged to continue working with its broadcast partners to innovate coverage, improve fan experiences, and maintain the GPL’s status as one of Africa’s most competitive leagues.
As the new season approaches, fans can be assured that no matter where they are in Ghana, the roar of the crowd, the drama of last-minute goals, and the joy of victory will be brought to them live through their radios.
