About the Africa Internet Summit
The Africa Internet Summit (AIS) is widely regarded as the premier technical, educational, and business ICT event on the continent. It brings together a diverse range of stakeholders, including Internet enthusiasts, technical professionals, policymakers, regulators, entrepreneurs, civil society, academia, and global Internet players.
The theme for AIS25, “A Resilient Internet Ecosystem for an Innovative Digital Africa,” highlights the urgent need for robust, secure, and forward-looking Internet infrastructure to power Africa’s digital future.
What to Expect
AIS25 will serve as a unique platform for learning, networking, and collaboration. Over the course of five days, participants will engage in:
- Technical coordination and discussions on strengthening Internet infrastructure in Africa.
- Policy dialogues that will shape the future of digital governance and innovation.
- Capacity-building workshops and tutorials designed to equip participants with practical knowledge and skills.
- Exhibitions and showcases featuring innovations in ICT that will benefit Ghanaian businesses, startups, and the youth.
By combining education, technical training, and high-level policy dialogue, AIS25 will not only celebrate Ghana’s Internet journey but also position the country as a hub for Africa’s digital growth.
Celebrating 30 Years of Internet in Ghana
The hosting of AIS25 in Accra is especially significant as Ghana celebrates three decades since the introduction of the Internet in 1995. Ghana’s early adoption of Internet technology made it a pioneer in Africa’s digital journey, opening the doors for innovation, trade, and socio-economic development across the continent.
“Hosting AIS25 in Accra as we mark 30 years of Internet in Ghana is a proud moment for our nation. It reflects Ghana’s pioneering role in Africa’s digital journey and our unwavering commitment to building a resilient, data-driven, and inclusive Internet ecosystem that empowers businesses, youth, and innovators for the future and socio-economic development of Ghana,” said Hon. Sam George, Minister for Communications, Digital Technology & Innovation.
Voices of Leadership
Prof. Nii Quaynor, Convenor of AfNOG and widely celebrated as a pioneer of the Internet in Africa, stressed the importance of the milestone for Ghana and the wider continent.
“Ghana’s early adoption of the Internet helped open doors for Africa’s digital growth. As AIS25 comes to Accra, we celebrate Ghana’s contribution and invite young people, entrepreneurs, and innovators to take part in building the next 30 years of Africa’s Internet,” Prof. Quaynor remarked.
His statement resonates strongly with Ghana’s growing community of digital innovators and entrepreneurs, who continue to leverage the Internet to transform industries, create jobs, and drive economic growth.
A Hub for Collaboration
AIS25 is expected to draw Internet experts, technocrats, regulators, policymakers, and innovators from across Africa and beyond. With Ghana as the host, the event will provide a valuable opportunity for local businesses, universities, and startups to engage with global players and establish partnerships.
The Summit will also highlight the importance of inclusivity, ensuring that youth, women, and underrepresented communities have a voice in shaping Africa’s Internet future. In doing so, AIS25 aligns with the broader vision of digital inclusion as a driver of social and economic empowerment.
