Gideon Mensah Eyes Professional Return with Ghana Dream Alive

Semi professional footballer Gideon Mensah has shared a powerful account of his journey, highlighting resilience, ambition, and a relentless desire to return to the professional stage while keeping his dream of representing Ghana firmly alive.

Mensah’s path into football began at a very young age, inspired by watching the game on television and growing up around people who played. What started as passion quickly turned into purpose, as he committed himself to pursuing the sport seriously. He began his development with Feltham Youth, where he played until the age of 16, before moving on to Bedfont Eagles between the ages of 17 and 18.

His progress earned him opportunities at higher levels, including spells with AFC Wimbledon U18 and Bristol Rovers U19, experiences that shaped his understanding of the game and exposed him to a more competitive environment.

After the COVID 19 period, Mensah secured a major breakthrough, signing his first professional contract in Scotland. However, his journey has been far from straightforward. After spending some time there, he returned to England and had to rebuild, featuring for Brook House FC while working his way back up.

Determined to push forward, he pursued opportunities abroad, traveling to Sweden and Denmark for trials. Despite impressing, both moves were halted due to visa complications, preventing him from signing. Nevertheless, he gained valuable exposure, including competing in the Danish FA Cup under the guidance of a former professional coach, with scouts in attendance.

Reflecting on the challenges, Mensah admitted that restarting his journey has been mentally demanding, often feeling like he was back to square one. However, he remains confident in his ability, believing that having reached the professional level once proves he can achieve it again.

On the pitch, Mensah operates as an attacking left back or wing back, known for his pace, energy, and ability to contribute in forward areas. His style is built around fast, counter attacking football, combined with a strong work ethic and commitment to the team.

A lifelong supporter of Arsenal, Mensah says while it would be a dream to play for the club, his focus remains on securing any opportunity that allows him to restart his professional career and continue building his profile as a player.

He is particularly targeting leagues in Europe and Asia, where he believes his playing style can flourish. To reach that level, he has committed himself to intense training, maintaining discipline with fitness and nutrition, and actively networking with clubs, managers, and agents to create opportunities.

Beyond club football, Mensah carries a deep ambition to represent Ghana. With both parents from the country, wearing the national jersey would mean everything to him. He revealed that the passing of his mother at the age of 15 continues to motivate him, expressing that she would be proud to see him represent the motherland.

While he acknowledges the high level of competition for a national team place, he believes he is close and ready to prove himself if given the opportunity. He continues to work on improving his overall game, particularly his technical and tactical awareness.

Mentally, Mensah relies on faith, discipline, and self belief to stay focused. He credits prayer and positive thinking as key to overcoming pressure and setbacks, constantly reminding himself of his journey and what he is capable of achieving.

He draws inspiration from Cristiano Ronaldo, whose work ethic and determination have influenced his mindset. For Mensah, hard work remains the foundation for success.

Looking ahead, the 24 year old is optimistic about the future. He sees himself returning to the professional level within the next two to three years and pushing for a call up to represent Ghana. Despite the challenges, he believes that with faith and perseverance, anything is possible.

He also has a message for young footballers, urging them not to let doubt from others affect their confidence, but to believe in themselves and stay committed to their goals.

Mensah has promised fans a strong upcoming season, revealing plans to visit Ghana in December to train, connect with coaches, and continue pushing toward securing a professional contract.

His journey reflects determination and resilience, a player focused on rewriting his story and proving that setbacks are only part of the path to success.
