Aspiring National Women’s Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Hon. Betty Seyram Krosbi Mensah, has encouraged young women to prioritise building social capital, describing it as one of the most valuable assets for personal growth, leadership, and long-term success.
Speaking at the CONNECT Summit, organised by the Office of the Women’s Commissioner of TEIN UniMAC-IJ, Hon. Betty Krosbi Mensah inspired participants to overcome self-doubt and embrace opportunities that help shape confident, impactful leaders.
“Never allow self-doubt, fear, or perceived imperfections to silence their voices. Every great leader begins somewhere, and confidence is built through courage, consistency, and a willingness to embrace every opportunity to learn and grow”.
Addressing the gathering, she urged the students not to let fear, perceived imperfections, or a lack of confidence silence their voices, emphasising that every successful leader starts somewhere and builds confidence through courage, consistency, and a willingness to learn.
Hon. Mensah stressed that social capital extends beyond financial wealth or material possessions. According to her, it is built through meaningful service, strong relationships, integrity, and the positive impact individuals make within their communities, even when their efforts go unnoticed.
“Social capital is not measured by wealth or material possessions, but by the service we render, the relationships we build, and the positive impact we make, even when no one is watching or applauding. The quiet sacrifices, acts of service, and commitment to our communities are lasting investments that open doors and create opportunities”, she underscored.
She noted that the CONNECT Summit itself reflected the power of networking and meaningful relationships, encouraging participants to value every connection they make, as today’s acquaintances could become tomorrow’s mentors, collaborators, or partners in leadership.
The aspiring NDC National Women’s Organiser also called on young women to actively participate in leadership, student governance, and civic engagement, stressing that leadership is not reserved for a privileged few but for everyone willing to serve and contribute to society.
She concluded by urging the participants to become agents of positive change by believing in their abilities, investing in personal development, serving with purpose, and building relationships founded on trust and integrity.
“Be the change you wish to see. Believe in your voice, invest in your personal growth, serve with purpose, and build meaningful relationships”.
Hon. Betty Seyram Krosbi Mensah reaffirmed that while financial resources are important, the social capital cultivated through service, leadership, and meaningful connections remains one of the greatest strengths any individual can possess.
“While financial resources are important, the social capital you cultivate through service, integrity, and leadership will remain one of your greatest strengths”, she stated.
