Jaywon Accuses Odumodublvck of Using His Name for Relevance

Nigerian singer Jaywon has publicly accused rapper Odumodublvck of leveraging his name to remain relevant in the music industry. The accusation comes as the two artists, who were previously involved in a heated social media exchange in 2024, continue to attract attention for their ongoing feud.

Jaywon claims that Odumodublvck frequently mentions him in interviews to gain clout, despite attempts by the rapper to downplay their rivalry.

The discord between the artists initially escalated last year after a social media spat, which eventually led to Jaywon releasing a diss track aimed at Odumodublvck. Although many assumed the conflict had settled, recent comments made by Odumodublvck during an interview with Hip TV have reignited the feud. Odumodublvck, while addressing their past altercation, stated that it was all “just banter” and insisted that there was no bad blood between them.

“Forget that banter, Jaywon is my guy. I really love Jaywon. He is relevant because they book him once a year,” Odumodublvck said, referencing Jaywon’s popular song “This Year,” which resurfaces annually as a New Year anthem. While his comments seemed playful, they were not received as such by Jaywon, who interpreted them as dismissive of his contributions to the music industry.

In response, Jaywon took to his X (formerly Twitter) handle to address the remarks. He expressed frustration with Odumodublvck’s consistent mentions of his name in interviews, suggesting that it was a deliberate attempt to draw attention to himself. “Odumodu will always mention my name in his interviews because that’s the only way he stays relevant,” Jaywon wrote.

He further added, “Even he admits that none of his other beefs trend because they’re not Jaywon. When I said he’s not all that, it wasn’t beef, it was just facts. Enjoy yourself, boy.”

Jaywon also dismissed any notions of an ongoing rivalry, asserting that he harbors no animosity towards Odumodublvck. “I can’t stand the fact that Odumodu thinks I’m beefing with him. Yo, get over it and focus on your career, bro,” he continued. “Or is it that you just can’t handle the fact that I’ll always be relevant because of that one single you keep coming for?”

The exchange highlights the lingering tension between the two artists, with Jaywon feeling that his legacy is being trivialized. Jaywon, whose full name is Iledare Oluwajuwonlo, is best known for his 2013 hit song “This Year (Odun Yi),” which has become an anthem for celebrations, particularly during the New Year period. The track’s timeless appeal has solidified Jaywon’s place in Nigerian music, even as the industry continues to evolve.

Odumodublvck, on the other hand, has built a reputation as one of the most unconventional rappers in Nigeria. His breakout hit “Declan Rice” catapulted him to fame, earning him a loyal fan base. However, his outspoken nature and frequent involvement in controversies have made him a polarizing figure in the industry. While he claims to admire Jaywon and views their interactions as lighthearted, his remarks have often been interpreted as undermining Jaywon’s accomplishments.

The feud has sparked mixed reactions from fans and observers. Some have sided with Jaywon, applauding him for addressing what they perceive as disrespectful comments. Others believe Odumodublvck’s statements were harmless and argue that Jaywon’s response was unnecessary. The situation has also reignited conversations about the pressures artists face to maintain relevance and how one successful song can define an artist’s career.

Jaywon’s frustration with being identified primarily by his hit song is not uncommon in the music world. Many artists struggle with the perception that their careers revolve around a single defining moment, often overshadowing their other achievements. However, Jaywon’s supporters argue that creating a timeless classic like “This Year” is an accomplishment that deserves respect, not ridicule.

Odumodublvck’s comments also highlight the generational divide in the Nigerian music industry. As a representative of the newer wave of artists, Odumodublvck’s approach to fame and success differs significantly from that of veterans like Jaywon. While younger artists often rely on bold statements and viral moments to stay in the spotlight, older artists tend to focus on the quality and longevity of their work.

Despite the ongoing tension, both artists remain active in their respective careers. Jaywon has hinted at new music projects, aiming to expand his discography and prove that he is more than a one-hit wonder. Odumodublvck, meanwhile, continues to enjoy the success of his unique style and is reportedly working on collaborations with other prominent artists.

The feud also sheds light on the broader dynamics of the Nigerian music industry, where competition is fierce, and the line between genuine admiration and rivalry is often blurred. While public disputes can draw attention and spark debates, they can also distract from the music itself. Fans of both Jaywon and Odumodublvck hope that the artists will eventually set aside their differences and focus on what truly matters: creating music that resonates with audiences.

As the drama unfolds, one thing is certain: both Jaywon and Odumodublvck have left their mark on the Nigerian music scene. Whether through timeless classics or bold new sounds, their contributions reflect the diversity and vibrancy of African music. While their feud may grab headlines for now, their talent and dedication will ultimately determine their legacies in the industry.

For now, the spotlight remains on their ongoing exchanges, with fans eagerly watching to see how the story will evolve. Whether it leads to reconciliation or continued rivalry, the saga serves as a reminder of the complex relationships and challenges that come with fame.
