Lawyer Atta Akyea Writes: My Party’s Boycott of TV3

On Wednesday, the 10th day of September 2025, in a virtual engagement, I moved the judge of the High Court, General Jurisdiction “10,” on a notice of motion for stay of proceedings pending the determination of an appeal against His Lordship’s ruling denying Kwabena Adu-Boahene and others critical evidential material exculpatory of them.

The Hon. Deputy Attorney-General, Justice Srem-Sai, responded to my arguments, and the case was adjourned to the 17th day of October 2025 for the court to deliver its decision. During proceedings, the Hon. Deputy Attorney-General informed the Court that I had been engaging the press to put pressure on the trial. He had no basis for saying so, and the judge asserted that he cannot be press-ruled.

I do not know how this off-record issue came to the attention of a lady journalist who later approached me for an interview. I did not decline her request, despite the shabby treatment some members of the press have been meting out to my client, Mr. Kwabena Adu-Boahene, and his family.

On Friday, the 12th day of September 2025, the lady, who turned out to be Beatrice Adu, came with her crew to my law office for an interview. My attention has since been drawn to the fact that Beatrice Adu and her team are from TV3, a media house currently boycotted by the New Patriotic Party. At the time, I was not aware of this continued boycott and will not disrespect the principled position of my Party regarding engagements with TV3.

I regret the unfortunate situation; however, I nevertheless own the content of the interview.

Yours faithfully,
Samuel Atta Akvea
