LOS ANGELES – The BET Awards 2025 are shaping up to be a landmark celebration as the iconic event marks its 25th anniversary with a special tribute to four legends whose contributions to entertainment, music, and advocacy have left a lasting impact.
Black Entertainment Television (BET), the U.S.-based network that launched the awards ceremony in 2001 to honor Black excellence across music, film, sports, and culture, has announced that it will present the prestigious Ultimate Icon Award to four influential figures: Mariah Carey, Snoop Dogg, Jamie Foxx, and Kirk Franklin.
The ceremony, set to air live on June 9, 2025, from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, will be hosted by comedian and actor Kevin Hart, adding a dose of humor and star power to one of the most anticipated nights in Black entertainment.
According to BET, the honorees were selected not only for their illustrious careers but also for their powerful advocacy and influence within their communities.
“As we celebrate 25 years of honoring Black excellence, we felt it was only fitting to highlight icons who have not only shaped the culture through their art but have also used their platforms to uplift and inspire,” BET said in an official statement.
Honoring Icons Who Shaped Generations
Each of the four recipients has made indelible contributions to their respective fields:
- Mariah Carey, a five-time Grammy Award winner, is known for her extraordinary vocal range, timeless hits, and decades of chart dominance. Her influence on generations of singers has cemented her status as one of the greatest vocalists in modern music history. Beyond music, Carey has been a vocal advocate for mental health awareness and racial justice.
- Snoop Dogg, the West Coast rap legend and entrepreneur, has remained a relevant and influential figure in hip hop since his 1993 debut. Known for hits like “Drop It Like It’s Hot” and his laid-back style, Snoop has also been deeply involved in youth mentorship and community activism in his hometown of Long Beach, California.
- Jamie Foxx, an Academy Award-winning actor, singer, and comedian, has captivated audiences with his versatility, from portraying Ray Charles in Ray to delivering hit singles like “Blame It.” Foxx’s philanthropy and advocacy for racial equality and social justice have further cemented his role as a multifaceted cultural icon.
- Kirk Franklin, the trailblazing gospel singer and producer, revolutionized gospel music with his contemporary sound and message of hope. A 19-time Grammy winner, Franklin has used his voice to support initiatives around prison reform, mental health, and youth empowerment.
“Receiving this honor from BET means everything,” said Franklin in a video posted to his social media accounts. “I’ve dedicated my life to making music that uplifts the soul, and to be recognized among such powerful artists and advocates is incredibly humbling.”
Kendrick Lamar Leads 2025 BET Nominations
While the celebration of legends will be a highlight of the show, this year’s BET Awards will also shine a spotlight on the next generation of Black excellence. Leading the pack of nominees is Kendrick Lamar, the Pulitzer Prize-winning rapper known for his complex lyrics, political messaging, and genre-defying sound.
Lamar, who released his critically acclaimed album “The Heart Speaks” earlier this year, has received nominations in multiple categories including Best Male Hip Hop Artist, Album of the Year, and Video of the Year. His lead in nominations reinforces his position as one of the most respected voices in music today.

Kevin Hart Returns as Host
Bringing his signature humor and high-energy presence, Kevin Hart is set to return as host of the ceremony. Hart previously hosted the BET Awards in 2011, and his comeback marks another full-circle moment in the award show’s 25-year journey.
