The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Nkwanta South, Honourable Joseph Awal Antwi, has engaged renowned youth advocate and entrepreneur, Ambassador Alhaji Salamu Amadu, in Accra to discuss potential areas of collaboration, especially in the field of youth and sports development.
During the meeting, which took place on June 20, 2025, Hon. Antwi highlighted the urgent need for infrastructure that supports youth empowerment in the Nkwanta South Municipality, particularly a dedicated sports complex to harness and develop the talents of young people in the district.
Sports as a Tool for Community Growth
The MCE emphasized that many young people in Nkwanta South are passionate about sports and possess immense potential, yet the lack of standard facilities continues to limit their opportunities.
“We have raw talent in our communities,” Hon. Antwi stated. “Names like Vincent Atinga and Emmanuel Keyekeh, who have gone on to represent top clubs in Ghana, are examples of what Nkwanta South can produce. But without a proper sports facility, the next generation of talent may never be discovered.”
He noted that a well-equipped sports complex would serve multiple purposes: it would provide structured recreational opportunities, reduce youth involvement in social vices, and create employment through coaching, training, and maintenance roles.
Ambassador Salamu Applauds Youth-Led Leadership
Ambassador Alhaji Salamu Amadu, who has over the years supported numerous youth-centered initiatives, welcomed the MCE’s visit and praised his hands-on leadership approach. He commended the foresight of former President John Dramani Mahama in appointing young and energetic individuals like Hon. Antwi to positions of responsibility.
“As a Youth Ambassador, I sincerely appreciate the trust His Excellency John Mahama placed in you,” Ambassador Salamu remarked. “Your enthusiasm for youth development is evident, and your focus on long-term impact is inspiring.”
He acknowledged the proposal for a sports facility as timely and relevant and encouraged the MCE to formalize the concept through a detailed proposal that outlines community needs, project scope, and potential benefits.
A Shared Interest in Empowerment
Both parties expressed a shared interest in seeing young people empowered through practical, sustainable initiatives. The conversation touched on broader areas of community development beyond sports, including education, mentorship, and skills training.
Hon. Antwi assured Ambassador Salamu of his office’s readiness to provide all necessary documentation and partnership frameworks to bring the proposed project to life. He stressed that the people of Nkwanta South are eager to partner with individuals and institutions that believe in progress through action.
“This is not just about sports,” he explained. “It’s about building hope and giving the youth something they can own and grow with. We are ready to work together with anyone who shares this vision.”
Next Steps
The MCE is expected to lead the drafting of a formal proposal in the coming weeks. This document will include technical details and potential locations for the sports complex, along with community testimonies and long-term impact projections.
Ambassador Salamu, for his part, expressed openness to reviewing the proposal once it is submitted and encouraged continued dialogue around youth empowerment across regions.
The meeting concluded with mutual appreciation and a renewed commitment to collaboration for the betterment of young people in Nkwanta South and beyond.
