Open Letter To P-Square: Blood Is Thicker Than Water

By Dickson Boadi

My dear brothers, Rudeboy and Mr P, Nothing surpasses the love of a mother for her children. I know your beloved mother shared many beautiful memories with both of you while she was alive. She watched you grow, guided you, encouraged you and, like every mother, I believe she wanted nothing but the best for her children.

So today, I want to make a heartfelt appeal to both of you.

Please, look back at the advice, motivation and guidance your mother gave you when she was alive. Remember the things she taught you about family, forgiveness, togetherness and the importance of standing by each other.

I believe those memories are still somewhere in your hearts.

I cannot speak for your mother, and I would never pretend to know exactly what she would say today. But as someone appealing to two brothers, I can only imagine that she would want to see her children at peace with each other.

Whatever happened between you, I believe there must be a way to find peace.

There is something about family that makes it different from every other relationship in life. You can have a former wife. You can have a former husband. You can even have a former friend. But how often do you hear someone say, “my former brother” or “my former sister”?

That is because a brother remains your brother, and a sister remains your sister.

You may disagree. You may decide to stay apart for a while. You may even choose different paths in life. But the blood connection does not disappear.

Peter and Paul, before P-Square, there were simply two brothers who shared the same home, the same parents, the same childhood and many of the same dreams.

The music came later.

The fame came later.

The money and the success came later.

But the brotherhood came first.

That is the part I hope you will both remember.

You have both achieved remarkable things individually, but there is a special place in the hearts of your fans for P-Square. Many people grew up listening to your music. Many created memories around your songs. Many Africans watched you two represent the continent with pride.

That legacy is bigger than any disagreement.

I am not asking either of you to pretend that nothing happened. I am not asking you to ignore your feelings or sweep your differences under the carpet.

I am simply asking you to talk.

Sit down as brothers.

Listen to each other.

Remember where you came from.

And perhaps, in that conversation, you may discover that the things that separated you are not bigger than the bond that brought you together in the first place.

Your mother gave you life. She gave you both memories that no one else can replace.

Honour those memories.

Honour the family.

And if possible, honour the P-Square legacy you built together.

Rudeboy and Mr P, Africa has enjoyed your music, but I believe many people would be even happier to see the two brothers behind that music find peace with each other.

Blood is thicker than water.

Please, let brotherhood win.
