Seyi Law Blasts P-Square Over Tinubu Criticism, Labels Them Political Hypocrites

Nigerian comedian Seyi Law has launched a scathing attack on iconic music duo, P-Square, accusing them of hypocrisy over their public disapproval of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

In a candid interview on The Deep Dive podcast hosted by Teju BabyFace, Seyi Law did not hold back as he expressed frustration with colleagues in the entertainment industry who, according to him, are quick to condemn the current administration but forget their own political pasts.

“P-Square Once Danced for Buhari” — Seyi Law Fires

During the interview, Seyi Law pointed fingers at the famous twin duo—Peter and Paul Okoye—for their shifting political allegiances. He referenced their appearance at former President Muhammadu Buhari’s 2015 inauguration, where they performed their hit song “E No Easy” on stage.

“The same people who are against the APC today once danced on the stage when Buhari was inaugurated,” Seyi Law said.
“’E no easy ee ooooo. To sing and to dey dance and the people dey rejoice eee,’ they did it for Buhari and today Tinubu is the enemy.”

Seyi Law, who has been a vocal supporter of President Tinubu, stated that it is unfair for entertainers like P-Square to switch sides without acknowledging their own roles in legitimizing previous administrations.

Comedian Calls Out Hypocrisy in Entertainment Industry

Seyi Law accused several entertainers of using political movements to further personal interests, noting that some only support candidates based on popularity or regional sentiments.

“Sometimes these our same colleagues that come out to wave an umbrella today or somehow start to wave cock today or another political party are actually not saints,” he said, referencing the symbols of major Nigerian political parties.
“They will tell you if it was Osinbajo that APC brought, that we would have supported him. Is he not the same Yoruba man?”

Seyi Law further suggested that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, a perceived favorite among some entertainers, would not have received unanimous backing from the industry if he had contested.

“Stop being hypocrites because all of you knew that if APC had brought Osinbajo, you would have used the badge of Buhari to defeat him,” he added.

Backlash Over Support for Tinubu

Since publicly endorsing Bola Tinubu during the 2023 general elections, Seyi Law has faced backlash from both fans and colleagues, particularly after Nigeria’s economic situation worsened post-election.

Despite the criticisms, the comedian has remained unapologetic. He previously stated that he supported Tinubu out of a personal conviction that he would bring governance experience and reform to Nigeria.

“I’ve made my choice, and I stand by it. That doesn’t mean I won’t hold the government accountable when necessary,” Seyi Law said in a separate interview earlier this year.

His support for Tinubu was especially controversial given that many other celebrities, including P-Square, publicly endorsed Peter Obi of the Labour Party in the 2023 elections.

P-Square’s Political Journey

The Okoye twins have been outspoken in recent years about their disillusionment with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). During the 2023 election campaign, they threw their weight behind Labour Party’s Peter Obi, performing at campaign rallies and using their massive fanbase to mobilize youth support.

“We are not just here to perform. We are here to drive a new Nigeria. A Nigeria that works for all,” Peter Okoye declared at one of the rallies.

This support marked a sharp contrast from their earlier stance in 2015, when they participated in the Buhari-led APC inauguration celebrations.

Seyi Law’s remarks have now reignited the debate about whether entertainers should remain neutral or engage in partisan politics, especially when they shift allegiances over time.

Industry Reaction Mixed

Seyi Law’s comments have sparked a mixed reaction within the entertainment industry and among fans. While some applauded his honesty, others accused him of deflecting attention from the struggles Nigerians are currently facing under Tinubu’s government.

One social media user tweeted:

“Seyi Law should talk about fuel prices and inflation, not what P-Square did in 2015. We are in 2025 now, and people are suffering.”

Another user came to his defense:

“What Seyi Law said is true. Many of these celebrities pick and choose when to care about Nigeria. If you danced for Buhari, don’t pretend you’ve always been against the APC.”

Political Engagement or Personal Branding?

The growing trend of entertainers aligning with political figures has raised questions about authenticity. Are stars genuinely committed to political change, or is it just another form of branding and influence?

According to Lagos-based political analyst, Chinedu Ugwu:

“Many celebrities jump on political waves that benefit their image at the time. The same ones who endorsed Buhari in 2015 disowned him by 2019. Now they’re all ‘Obidients’. It’s hard to take them seriously.”

Seyi Law’s remarks may be controversial, but they have undoubtedly stirred important conversations about accountability, consistency, and the role of entertainers in shaping political discourse.

What’s Next for Seyi Law and P-Square?

Neither Peter nor Paul Okoye has publicly responded to Seyi Law’s accusations at the time of writing, but given their history of engaging in public debates, a response may not be far off.

For now, Seyi Law stands by his words, encouraging Nigerians to scrutinize not just politicians, but also the celebrities who shape public opinion.

“Everybody is quick to act like a saint when it benefits them. But the truth doesn’t change. History is there. Receipts are there,” he said.
