Award-winning Ghanaian reggae and dancehall artiste, Livingstone Etse Satekla, popularly known as Stonebwoy, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Ya Naa Abukari II, the Overlord of Dagbon, describing the late traditional ruler as a symbol of peace, unity and visionary leadership.
In a heartfelt tribute shared on social media, Stonebwoy said the death of the revered monarch is a great loss not only to the people of Dagbon but to the entire nation.
“I mourn the passing of Ya Naa Abukari II, Overlord of Dagbon. His loss is felt across Dagbon and all of Ghana,” he wrote.
The musician praised the late Ya Naa for his efforts in restoring peace and stability to the Dagbon Kingdom during one of the most challenging periods in its history.
“He was a leader of peace and vision. At Dagbon’s most fragile moment, he restored unity, healed divisions, and gave the Kingdom new hope and stability,” Stonebwoy stated.
Reflecting on his personal relationship with the Kingdom, Stonebwoy recalled the warm reception and honour he received from the people of Dagbon, saying it remains one of the proudest moments of his life.
“I will never forget the love Dagbon showed me, welcoming me as family and honouring me with the title Dancehall Sapashini, The Warrior. For that, I am forever grateful,” he said.
Stonebwoy noted that the values of peace, unity and reconciliation championed by the late Ya Naa will continue to inspire generations, stressing that his legacy will remain deeply rooted in the history and future of Dagbon.
The award-winning artiste extended his heartfelt condolences to the chiefs, the royal family and the people of Dagbon, praying for strength and comfort as they mourn the passing of their revered leader.
“My condolences to the Chiefs, the royal family, and the people of Dagbon. God grant you strength during this difficult time. Rest well, Ya Naa,” he added.
The passing of Ya Naa Abukari II has drawn tributes from across Ghana, with many describing his reign as one that fostered reconciliation, unity and development in the Dagbon Kingdom.
