Super Eagles Set for Crucial Africa Cup of Nations Qualifier Against Rwanda

Super Eagles caretaker coach, Augustine Eguavoen, has unveiled his starting lineup for tonight’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying matchday six clash against the Amavubi of Rwanda. The much-anticipated encounter is set to take place at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, with the kick-off scheduled for 5:00 pm Nigeria time.

In a significant change to the starting XI, Udinese goalkeeper, Maduka Okoye, will step in to replace the late Stanley Nwabali, who is unavailable due to a recent bereavement. Okoye’s inclusion ensures that Nigeria’s goalkeeping position remains in capable hands, despite the unfortunate circumstances surrounding Nwabali’s absence.

Defensively, there are also adjustments, with Bright Osayi-Samuel filling in at right-back to cover for the injured Ola Aina. Osayi-Samuel, known for his pace and defensive skills, will be crucial in preventing Rwanda’s attack on the right flank. On the left side of defense, Boavista’s Bruno Onyemaechi retains his spot, bringing stability to the defense as he continues to form a solid partnership with the central defenders.

At the heart of the defense, Nigeria’s captain, William Troost-Ekong, will once again lead the backline. He will be paired with the versatile Gabriel Osho, who has been consistently solid in recent matches. The duo’s coordination and communication will be vital in keeping the Amavubi strikers at bay during what promises to be a challenging match.

In midfield, the Super Eagles will be looking to dominate possession and control the tempo of the game. Frank Onyeka, Alhassan Yusuf, and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru will form the three-man midfield unit. Onyeka, who is known for his defensive abilities and work rate, will provide the necessary cover to the backline, while Yusuf, who is effective both in attack and defense, will be looking to make an impact in transitioning from defense to attack. Dele-Bashiru, who has impressed in previous outings, will provide the creativity and drive needed to break down Rwanda’s defense and create goal-scoring opportunities.

Up front, Bayer Leverkusen’s striker Victor Boniface has been tasked with leading the Super Eagles’ attack. Boniface, whose physicality and finishing ability have made him a key player in the team’s offensive setup, will be looking to get on the scoresheet and help Nigeria secure all three points in this crucial qualifier. He will be flanked by the ever-reliable Moses Simon, who brings pace and creativity to the attack, and Kelechi Iheanacho, who will be expected to use his sharp footballing intelligence and goal-scoring instincts to support Boniface in breaking down the opposition.

The match is an important one for Nigeria, as they look to maintain their push for qualification to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. A win against Rwanda will solidify their position at the top of Group B, and a strong performance is expected from the Super Eagles, who have been in good form throughout the qualification process. Eguavoen will be looking for a professional and dominant display from his team as they seek to keep their AFCON dreams alive.

The encounter between the Super Eagles and the Amavubi is expected to be a tightly contested affair. While Nigeria enters the match as the favorites, the Rwandan team will not be an easy opponent. Known for their resilience and disciplined approach to the game, the Amavubi will pose a significant challenge, and the Super Eagles will need to be at their best to secure the victory.

With the support of the passionate Nigerian fans in Uyo, the Super Eagles are determined to give their best performance and make a statement in front of their home crowd. As the match approaches, anticipation is building, and all eyes will be on the pitch as the two teams battle for a vital three points in the race for AFCON qualification.

Tonight’s match promises to be an exciting and high-stakes encounter, and the Super Eagles will be hoping to deliver a memorable performance as they continue their quest for continental glory.
