A Togolese online media, Le Nouveau Reporter, plans to organize on February 28, 2025 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. GMT, a webinar, better a seminar or a live conference, to combat fake news and violent extremism. The webinar will be accessible at the following web address: https://zoom.us/j/99943739045
The upcoming webinar will focus on the theme entitled “Dealing with fake news to effectively combat terrorism”.
The webinar aims to provide concrete answers to urgent questions, including how does fake news fuel violent extremism and terrorism. What are the solutions to identify, counter and prevent disinformation? How can States, media and citizens act together to strengthen resilience against these threats?
For the initiator of the project and publication director of Le Nouveau Reporter Dieudonné Korolakina, “this meeting is part of a critical security context, where the proliferation of fake news and the rise of violent extremism threaten social and political stability, not only in Togo but also in the entire West African sub-region”.
In justifying such an initiative, Korolakina explained that “In the digital age, fake news and disinformation have become formidable weapons used to manipulate public opinion, sow fear and fuel violent extremism.
These phenomena know no borders and affect all aspects of life, including politics, security, health, education and social cohesion”, indicates the organizing media”.
The upcoming webinar will be hosted by three renowned experts including Noël Kokou Tadegnon, an investigative journalist, teacher, and fact-checking specialist.
Participation in this webinar is free, free and accessible to everyone.
It will be an opportunity to share practical knowledge and will ultimately have a real impact on the collective movement for a more informed, safer and more resilient society.
