Accra – Nestlé Ghana Ltd has donated 10 tricycles and other essential supplies to the Kpone Landfill Waste Pickers Association to support their vital role in the collection of plastic waste for recycling.
The donation marks a significant milestone in the ongoing partnership between Nestlé Ghana Ltd and the Association, reinforcing their shared commitment to improving post-consumer waste management and promoting environmental sustainability.
Since the launch of its plastic waste collection program in 2019, Nestlé Ghana Ltd has consistently supported waste pickers in Accra. The company has provided 78 tricycles, along with various tools and equipment, to enhance their recycling efforts. With this new donation, the total number of tricycles donated by Nestlé Ghana for waste management initiatives now stands at 88.
Through this support, the Kpone Landfill Waste Pickers Association joins a growing network of partners collaborating with Nestlé Ghana, including the Alliance for Waste Pickers Associations and Vigour DW Enterprise, an industrial recycling firm, to strengthen post-consumer waste management across the country.
During the official handover ceremony at the Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology, Salomé Azevedo, Managing Director of Nestlé Ghana, stated that the initiative goes beyond plastic waste management—it also aims to create a sustainable environment while improving the livelihoods of individuals who play a critical role in this sector.
Alhaji Yussif Sulemana, Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, commended Nestlé Ghana for its continuous support towards plastic waste management. He urged other companies to follow Nestlé’s example and join in this noble effort to protect the environment.
Receiving the items on behalf of the Kpone Waste Pickers Association, Divine Dekonor expressed gratitude to Nestlé Ghana and assured all stakeholders that the items will be put to good use to enhance their work and impact.
