The President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), , has expressed profound appreciation to Ghanaians and supporters of the Black Stars around the world following the team’s elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
In a heartfelt message addressed to Ghanaians, the GFA President acknowledged the disappointment surrounding the Black Stars’ exit at the Round of 32 but urged the nation to remain united and optimistic about the future of Ghana football.
According to him, although the team’s World Cup campaign ended earlier than many had hoped, the players demonstrated courage, determination and resilience throughout the tournament while proudly representing the country on the biggest stage in world football.
“My dear Ghanaian brothers and sisters and cherished supporters of the Black Stars, on behalf of the Ghana Football Association, I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to you all for standing firmly behind our national team throughout the 2026 FIFA World Cup,” he said.
Mr. Simeon-Okraku admitted that the team’s exit was painful for everyone associated with Ghana football but stressed that there were several positives to take away from the tournament.
“Our journey ended at the Round of 32 of the tournament, and as disappointing as this is for all of us, we are immensely proud of the team for the courage and passion they portrayed in representing the country,” he stated.
The GFA President recalled the skepticism that surrounded the Black Stars before the start of the tournament, noting that many questioned whether the team had what it took to compete successfully against the world’s best football nations.
Despite those doubts, he said the Black Stars exceeded expectations by progressing from a difficult group to reach the knockout stage of the competition.
“Before the start of the 2026 World Cup, many doubted the team’s ability to compete at this global stage. Yet, the Black Stars responded by qualifying from a difficult group into the Round of 32. That resilience should make every Ghanaian and our supporters proud,” he said.
Mr. Simeon-Okraku described football as a journey filled with both victories and setbacks, insisting that every experience offers valuable lessons for future success.
He expressed confidence that the technical team and players would emerge stronger after reflecting on the challenges encountered during the tournament.
“Football is a journey of both triumph and learning. Every challenge strengthens our resolve, and every experience prepares us for future opportunities. The technical team and players have learned invaluable lessons from this 2026 World Cup campaign that will make the Black Stars stronger to compete for future laurels,” he noted.
The GFA President also used the opportunity to acknowledge the support received from the Government of Ghana throughout the team’s World Cup campaign.
He thanked the government for its unwavering commitment to the national team and praised sponsors and development partners whose financial and logistical support contributed to Ghana’s participation in the tournament.
“I wish to express my sincere gratitude to the Government of Ghana for their unwavering support, and to all our sponsors and partners whose contributions made this journey possible,” he said.
Mr. Simeon-Okraku reserved special appreciation for the Black Stars’ technical team, players and support staff, commending them for their commitment, professionalism and sacrifices made in service to the nation.
“Above all, I would like to thank the Head Coach, Players, Technical Team and the supporting staff for their dedication, commitment and sacrifice for the nation,” he added.
The GFA President further paid tribute to Ghanaians both at home and abroad, saying the overwhelming support shown throughout the tournament inspired the players to give everything on the pitch.
“We also thank the wonderful people of Ghana and our supporters around the world for your faith in the team. Your belief and support gave the Black Stars the strength to fight in every match,” he stated.
Looking beyond the disappointment of the World Cup exit, Mr. Simeon-Okraku reaffirmed the Football Association’s commitment to building a stronger and more competitive national team capable of achieving greater success in future international competitions.
According to him, the Association remains focused on developing a balanced squad that will compete strongly at the next Africa Cup of Nations and continue Ghana’s quest for global recognition.
“The future of Ghana football remains bright. The Football Association is committed to building a stronger, deeper and balanced team that will return to the Africa Cup of Nations, challenge for continental glory, and reach even greater heights on the world stage,” he assured.
He appealed to Ghanaians not to allow the disappointment of the Round of 32 exit to overshadow the progress made by the team, urging everyone to remain united behind the Black Stars as preparations begin for future assignments.
“Let us not use this moment to dwell on the disappointment of the team’s inability to advance to the next round of the World Cup but forge ahead with renewed determination and oneness of purpose to build a stronger team for the future,” he urged.
Mr. Simeon-Okraku concluded his message with a prayer for the nation, expressing hope that Ghana would continue to prosper while the Black Stars work towards returning stronger on both the continental and global stage.
“May God continue to bless our homeland Ghana and make our nation great and strong.”
The Black Stars’ 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign may have ended in the Round of 32, but the GFA believes the experience has laid a solid foundation for the team’s future.
