The independent Petition Review Committee established to review the petition filed by Adamus Resources Limited over the revocation of its mining leases has submitted its report to the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah.
The committee presented its findings after completing an extensive review of the issues raised by the mining company regarding the government’s decision to revoke its mining leases and related legal permits.
The committee was constituted after Adamus Resources Limited petitioned the government, challenging the cancellation of its mining leases. In response, the Minister inaugurated the committee and tasked it with conducting a thorough, independent and impartial assessment of the concerns raised by the company before making recommendations.
Chaired by Jerry Samuel Yaw Kuma, the committee was initially given between two and three weeks to complete its work and submit a report to the Minister.
As part of its mandate, the committee examined the circumstances surrounding the revocation of mining leases covering the Nkroful, Akango and Salman concessions in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region.
Government revoked the leases after investigations reportedly uncovered what it described as multiple breaches of Ghana’s mining laws and regulatory requirements.
According to the findings that informed the revocation, portions of the mining concessions were allegedly transferred to foreign nationals without obtaining the mandatory approval of the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, contrary to the country’s mining regulations.
Authorities also alleged that the concession areas had been associated with repeated violations of Ghana’s mining laws, prompting the government to take regulatory action.
During the inauguration of the committee, Lands and Natural Resources Minister Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah underscored the importance of ensuring due process, fairness and transparency in reviewing the company’s petition.
“The committee has been constituted to independently review the petition and advise the Ministry based on the facts and the applicable laws. The objective is to ensure fairness, transparency and due process in the resolution of this matter,” the Minister said.
With the committee now having completed its assignment and submitted its report, the Minister is expected to study the findings and recommendations before making a final determination on the matter.
The Ministry’s decision is expected to provide clarity on the future of the affected mining leases and outline the government’s next course of action. Industry stakeholders are also expected to closely monitor the outcome, given its potential implications for mining regulation and investment in Ghana.
