The Asunafo North Constituency Executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have donated relief items and cash to Mim Senior High School (MISEC) to support the school after a fire destroyed its girls’ dormitory.

The fire, which swept through the dormitory, completely destroyed the interior of the building, leaving only the walls standing. Students lost almost everything they had in the blaze, including their uniforms, learning tablets, trunks, chop boxes and other personal belongings.

The delegation, led by the Asunafo North NPP Constituency Chairman, Mr. Frank Owusu Afriyie, popularly known as Chemicals, presented two truckloads of sand and an undisclosed amount of money to the school.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Owusu Afriyie said the visit was to assure the school that it was not alone in this difficult period.

“We felt it was important to come and identify with the students and staff following this unfortunate incident. On behalf of the entire Asunafo North NPP, we extend our deepest sympathies to everyone affected by the fire,” he said.

He gave the assurance that the party would continue to support the school beyond the donation and contribute towards the construction of a new girls’ dormitory.

“This is only our first step. We will continue to stand by the school and support every effort to provide a new dormitory for the girls,” he added.

The donation was made in the presence of constituency executives, party members and members of the Council of Elders.

Receiving the items, the Headmaster of Mim Senior High School, Mr. James Tweneboah Koduah, thanked the constituency executives for the timely intervention.

“We are grateful for this generous support. At a time when the school is going through one of its most difficult moments, this donation gives us hope and encouragement,” he said.

He appealed to corporate organisations, civil society organisations, philanthropists and other well-meaning Ghanaians to come to the aid of the school to help rebuild the destroyed dormitory and replace items lost in the fire.

Mr. Koduah said the unfortunate incident would not derail the school’s commitment to providing quality education in a safe and supportive environment.

Some of the affected students also appealed to the Government of Ghana and benevolent individuals, both at home and abroad, to support the school as it works to recover from the disaster.

The fire has displaced many students and left the school with the daunting task of rebuilding the damaged facility while ensuring teaching and learning continue without interruption.
